Another Self Portrait in Another Style
I motivated myself to do another self portrait in another style. Here is what I wrote on Instagram when I finished it.
Here I Am for an artist self portrait show. One of a hundred entries. There is a very wide variety of mediums styles points of view. I went retro. Playfully. I’ve been playing with style an this impressionistic expressionistic in acrylic sits well with me. My artist gaze is at the viewer but in my studio my gaze is on the art im working on. I usually end up with my left hand full of a variety of brushes, holding them for my right to choose one. Paint is spattered on my hand smudged on my face. Red blood in my lips showing under my skin I'm wearing a red shirt because Art is a PASSION. My family is active in the background just out of focus but never far from me or my thoughts. Layer layer layer. Serious expression. Light is diffused and imperfect in my garage studio. It casts shadows and surfaces are mottled. White hair strands are in my hair. I'm middle aged. My eyebrows are thick. Maybe too think. Maybe that is one of my favorite artists showing through. My body isn’t visible. When I'm really into painting I do not feel my body. I'm detached almost. My back doesn’t hurt. My feet do not hurt. My glasses are off. Im looking closely and maybe even through my art. Here I am.
