A Dawn Every Day Artist
Informal Bio
I've established a dedicated studio space again after moving to a wetland community in NC. With my children now all in school full-time, and while working as an executive assistant virtually, I've been busy creating new artwork, participating in art shows, and illustrating children books
I'm largely a self-taught artist and art enthusiast. I've taken a couple of art classes while at a Liberal Arts college, but majoring or even minoring in art was not practical for my practical, working class family. Even becoming an art teacher was not a sufficiently practical enough life choice. (Even a Creative Writing English degree was a hard no.) So I struggled to finish first an English BA, then tried to continue being practical and complete a MS in Mass Communication with a concentration in Journalism. It wasn't what I wanted, but with the skill sets I was exposed to and exposure to technology, photography, research, social media, website building, and the challenges of bridging the technology and cultural gap that had developed in the 1990s (old school versus new school, pre-internet to post internet 2.0), not only did I land a flexible job I could do from home while raising children, but also gained access to online resources and more I was previously unaware of and can now use as tools.
I paint in mostly acrylics and sometimes oil (looking forward to returning to oils now I have dedicated studio space with a drying rack and a door). I also enjoy oil pastels and mixed media.
I do what I can and want when I can where ever I may be.
Sometimes that means upcycling cardboard with paint and pastels and sometimes that means buying canvases and new paint and brushes.
I've participated in two art shows, one with other local artists put on by a community member and recognized folk artist in a small town where I lived for a decade and another later at a library outside of Richmond with a solo exhibit. Both taught me a lot. Both taught me I had a lot to learn.
For the paintings that will appear here on this website, I will start with three distinct themes, producing dozens of small pieces to sell and share for each theme, as well as completing larger, more involved paintings for each theme.
There will be other paintings and drawings, but largely I will keep those on my Tumblr blog A Dawn Every Day with photos and videos of my local landscapes or little adventures (largely uplifting or positive reflective in intent) or my WordPress blog Dawn Scribbled To the End where I put everything else from sketches, skits, short posts, pictures, poems, and other things that cross my mind dark and light all together.
I'm going to do a little of this and that and do it my way, enjoying it all. Little adventures.
