Photos: A Pop Of Color

A casual collection of my original digital photos I've taken between 2021 2022, shared on Instagram and Facebook, exploring the artistic effect of isolating or exploiting a pop of color in what is sometimes, often times, a muted background. Specific examples are a lime green plastic toy on a sandy buff colored beach or a yellow flower forcing its way through the planks of a sun bleached boardwalk. This is a contrast between hues (pure color) and additionally tones, as the plastic toy or the flower might be a bright, fresh, pure hue, but it's surroundings are bleached by the sun and so they are muted in tones. It creates drama and emotion and can be used to communicate visually. In some cases the pop of color is the unexpected blush of color caused by chemical reactions inside a stressed plant (reacting to extreme weather changes) or a warm rainbow treatment on the clouds during a sunset (an effect of particles suspended in our atmosphere like pollen, pollution, smoke). Some may have filters applied. Others may not.

The video itself is one created on the fly with a free online service. I did not have the option to crop the way I wanted and the music was opensource and suggested by the platform. To stay out of trouble and save time, I went with their first suggestion.

I've also placed many photos below the video in a "better" form if not perfect.

Creating this post is also "homework" to get more familiar and comfortable talking about color and art. Although I may have recognized the aesthetics of color and exploited them in my art, I"m working on being more conscious of them and using them as a tool to communicate in my artwork. I'm creating and defining my color language.
